Beautiful and antique Dutch garniture of three large vases painted in Chinese imari style. The set was produced around 1889 by Petrus
Regout in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The set includes two large (34 cm) collar vases and one large (30 cm) covered vase. The decorations were applied by underglaze transfer printing (the black lines and shadows and light blue color), on top of which other colors were handpainted overglaze. These overglaze colors include red, dark blue, pale green, dark green, white, peach metallic luster paint, and some gold paint. This is an unusual amount of hand painting for Petrus Regout, who typically produced transfer-printed vases with only a few added handpainted details. The resulting vases look oriental but have a distinct western (Delft style) look. An excellent combination of East meets West!
This is a lovely set of antique vases, very decorative and impressive! The Chinese imari style goes back to the roots of Dutch Delftware.
The vases are painted in Chinese style but are also distinctly Western. This set of vases will look great on a mantle piece or as a large cabinet set.
